Why can't I use a standard fuse as an SPD backup?
Standard fuses are designed to melt at specific thermal levels. Lightning surges are extremely fast (8/20μs). A fuse small enough to protect the SPD will often blow during a normal surge, leaving your equipment unprotected. A dedicated SCB is designed to ignore lightning surges but trip instantly on power frequency fault currents.
What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 SPD protection?
Type 1 SPDs are designed for lightning current protection (10/350μs waveform) at the service entrance. Type 2 SPDs are for protection against switching surges and indirect lightning (8/20μs) at distribution boards. IGOYE provides backup devices for both.
